A free AI literacy programme

Understand the machine that is rewriting the world.

A patient, plainly-written course in artificial intelligence โ€” written for Nepal, free for every learner in Nepal and beyond. No prior maths. No programming required to begin.

Chapter 1 ยท 18 min

What is AI, really?

Ask ten people in Kathmandu what artificial intelligence is and you will get ten different answers. This course is for the tenth person โ€” the one who wants to know, plainly and without hype, what this thing actually is.

AI is pattern-matching, at scale, on data. Everything else is detail.

Our approach

Plain language.
No jargon for jargon's sake.

We teach the way a patient teacher would โ€” if a concept needs three pages it gets three pages, if it needs one sentence it gets one sentence. Every example is drawn from a system that exists, or could exist, in Nepal.

for every kind of learner.

Abstract ideas are made concrete with examples from the payments, mobility, and language tech you use every day.

Reading

Eye-friendly long-form

Considered typography for long stretches of reading. As legible on a Nokia as on a desk.

Practice

A quick check in every chapter

Small graded questions built by the author to test whether the idea actually landed.

Context

Rooted in Nepal

Khalti, Pathao, paddy, monsoon โ€” examples from places you already know intimately.

Why this exists

Our goal: to demystify AI, for Nepal.

ailiteracynepal.com is a free series of online courses built to help anyone in Nepal learn what AI is, what it can and can't do, and how it's made. We combine patient theory with practical exercises โ€” drawn from systems you already use, like Khalti, Pathao, and Devanagari OCR โ€” and you can move through it at your own pace.

Are you wondering how AI might affect your work or your life?

Do you want to learn what AI really means โ€” and how it's actually built?

Do you want to understand how AI will shape Nepal in the coming years?

Questions

Quick answers.

The questions we hear most often โ€” straight answers, no marketing.

Is it really free?

+
Yes โ€” entirely. No paywalls, no upsells, no "premium tier." All chapters, all quizzes, the certificate, and any future content are free, forever.

Do I need to sign up to start?

+
No. Read any chapter without an account โ€” your progress is saved locally in your browser. If you want cross-device sync or a verified certificate, you can sign in later, but it's optional.

Will I get a certificate when I finish?

+
Yes. Once you complete every chapter and pass each quick check, you receive a verified certificate of completion with your name on it โ€” shareable on LinkedIn or your CV, with a unique verification link.

Is everything available in Nepali?

+
Yes. The entire platform โ€” every chapter, every quiz, every UI element โ€” is fully translated to Nepali. Switch between English and Nepali anytime using the toggle in the header.

How long does the course take?

+
Introduction to AI is roughly 12 hours of reading across 6 chapters. Most learners spread it over 2โ€“3 weeks at their own pace. There is no deadline โ€” start, pause, and return whenever you want.

Do I need to know maths or programming?

+
Not for Introduction to AI โ€” the first course requires no prior maths or programming. The second course, Building AI, recommends basic Python, but it is introduced gradually as you go.
